"Payet looking like an absolute player.. Carries on like this will be off again next summer! "

Let's hope he stays for the new season at the OS, I can imagine there will be some huge bids coming in though. He will be 29 next year, same age as the player he replaced because we received a very good offer for a player of his age, according to reports, although the club said they wanted to keep him, the player said the club did not try hard enough.

We will see Sullivan's true colours when this all kicks off. Well they say every player has a price?

I would argue that Marseille are a decent European team playing Champions League football.

OK, not your Barcelona's, Milan's and Bayern Munich's but one of the top 4 in France.

Totally agree with you FCJ: the brightest stars tend to shine for the shortest time.

Re: Cole
I'm looking forward to Song returning as I think he and Moses will take the pressure off Payet.
That's the secret of course having better players rather than one 'star' who other teams can concentrate on.

I think being 29 might put the biggest teams off and of course they have similar talents. Teams like Spurs and liverpool will try it on though I am certain.

Re: Cole
You have to wonder how Payet has got to this age without being picked up by one of the top European sides. My guess is that he hasn't always been that consistent.
As we saw with Song last year form can change or an injury take something out of their game.

Enjoy the moment and don't expect magic in every game. He'll soon be marked out of games and we need to make sure others take advantage of all the attention going on him.

Re: Cole
I know it's still early in the season but the fee for a player like Payet always seemed to be pretty reasonable, especially when you looked at his stats for the year - right up there with the very best creative players in Europe.

I'm surprised that a 'bigger' team didn't take a punt but so grateful that they didn't. He has all the attributes to become a West Ham legend. Credit to the owners and all involved for selling the club to him.

To many shandies again nymbo, you'll do your liver no good and give yourself an early grave, I don't want to be the one who told you so.

So behave becasue you'll only compound it with ulcers and the sort and you won't like that either.

Look you friends of his (supposedly) I've said before he needs some help sort him out.

Every player has a price. Regardless of Everton rejecting 35 mill for stones. If it was 45 they would of sold. A crazy offer.

Only at west ham could we be concerned that a new signing playing well is going to leave quickly!

Re: Cole
To be honest I can't quite believe he's a West Ham player. He's magic. Worth the entry fee alone for me. I bet Liverpool and Tottenham will be kicking themselves.
Perhaps he wants to be a big fish for a club and enjoy his football rather than joining a big club and struggling for games.
Whatever his reasons, he's marvellous and so happy he plays for us

Why? Did Everton have no choice but to sell?

What's the fucking point in having decent players?

We want Spector and Pantsil in central midfield again, then we can be happy.

Re: Cole
He signed a 5 year deal. Probably reason he signed for us as at such a length was that he Has now secured earning great money until he is 33 regardless of form and injury. Puts us in a great position also. Sure if owners saw a crazy offer then they would have no choice but to sell. Will someone be offering crazy money for a 29 year old? I'm not too sure. Let's just enjoy it while it lasts. Hopefully he just enjoys his football keeps his head down and he will become a west ham great.

Re: Cole
All a matter of Payet's attitude

Will he continue in the same vein

Will he go on strike when Chelsea off Moses plus cash for him and the owners make a gesture by turning down the bid initially

Why such a depressing thread!?

We finally have a buzz around the place but people always have negatives to throw in.

Re: Cole
Age is fuck all to most managers these days. Maybe the odd one like Wenger generally doesn't go after aging players but it doesn't bother the other big clubs.

Schweinsteiger for example is 31, so if a manager thinks they are going to help win something, qualify for Europe etc etc then they will buy them.

You simply can't compare Payet to Downing. Payet is Bilic's player and main man where Downing was a player who was already here and could see the quality coming in.

I think Payet brought into the whole Olympic Stadium thing and the fact the whole club are on the up and is the teams "superstar" which i reckon he likes.

So I doubt he'll be moving on in the summer to make up the numbers somewhere else.

Re: Cole
There is no buy out clause on Payet's contract and unless a ridiculous offer comes in for him I can't see the Davids selling him for the first season in the OS... then in two years time he will be 30 and I doubt anyone would come in with a huge offer... I can (hopefully) see Payet seeing out his contract (4 years?).

Coles tweet is the tweet of a twat.

Re: Cole
Apparentely the Geordie and their scout Graham Carr were tracking him for a while...but decided against it due to his age!

All this age nonsense is just that.

A class player is a class player..why put potential future profits etc first and foremost.

Just shows how much has changed in the game.
